The Righteous Are Not Forsaken By God

Have you been working hard for so long and have yet to see the fruits of your labor? Have you been looking around you and it seems like everyone else is flourishing? Has it caused you to wonder if you have taken the wrong turn somewhere in life? Has it caused you to wonder if it’s worth all of the sacrifice?

To be honest, if I sit long enough and look around I too can easily find reasons to worry and question things. The exhaustion that comes from well-doing can, at times, seem over rated if I am not focused on the task at hand. Psalm 37 deals with this very issue.  In times like these, it is best to focus on God’s word and allow it to override the places where doubt tries to occupy space. The good news is that God doesn’t forsake the righteous. He see’s to your safety and to your success.

**Psalm 37 is a pretty long chapter so I indicated some of the verses that I enjoyed by making them RED. Feel free to read the entire thing :). **

Psalm 37  (All)

1 Do not fret because of those who are evil
or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.

3 Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.

7 Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.

8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9 For those who are evil will be destroyed,
but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.

10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;
though you look for them, they will not be found.
11 But the meek will inherit the land
and enjoy peace and prosperity.

12 The wicked plot against the righteous
and gnash their teeth at them;
13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
for he knows their day is coming.

14 The wicked draw the sword
and bend the bow
to bring down the poor and needy,
to slay those whose ways are upright.
15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts,
and their bows will be broken.

16 Better the little that the righteous have
than the wealth of many wicked;
17 for the power of the wicked will be broken,
but the Lord upholds the righteous.

18 The blameless spend their days under the Lord’s care,
and their inheritance will endure forever.
19 In times of disaster they will not wither;
in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.

20 But the wicked will perish:
Though the Lord’s enemies are like the flowers of the field,
they will be consumed, they will go up in smoke.

21 The wicked borrow and do not repay,
but the righteous give generously;
22 those the Lord blesses will inherit the land,
but those he curses will be destroyed.

23 The Lord makes firm the steps
of the one who delights in him;
24 though he may stumble, he will not fall,
for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

25 I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.
26 They are always generous and lend freely;
their children will be a blessing.

27 Turn from evil and do good;
then you will dwell in the land forever.
28 For the Lord loves the just
and will not forsake his faithful ones.

Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed;
the offspring of the wicked will perish.
29 The righteous will inherit the land
and dwell in it forever.

30 The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom,
and their tongues speak what is just.
31 The law of their God is in their hearts;
their feet do not slip.

32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous,
intent on putting them to death;
33 but the Lord will not leave them in the power of the wicked
or let them be condemned when brought to trial.

34 Hope in the Lord
and keep his way.
He will exalt you to inherit the land;
when the wicked are destroyed, you will see it.

35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man
flourishing like a luxuriant native tree,
36 but he soon passed away and was no more;
though I looked for him, he could not be found.

37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright;
a future awaits those who seek peace.
38 But all sinners will be destroyed;
there will be no future for the wicked.

39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
40 The Lord helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.

Sometimes, it can feel like things are working out for everyone else except you. Don’t worry because God is not idle. He is an active participant in your life and He will continue to protect, provide, and see to your success. Don’t give up! Don’t allow the moments of doubt to overtake you! So when you find yourself on the verge of doing just that remember verses 4 and 5, and then continue on being faithful.

A Christian With Control Issues

Christian and Control issues

Today is the last day of January. You may find yourself rushing to meet last minute deadlines or preparing for those bills that come first thing every month. These are just two examples of situations that may bring about stress in your life if you aren’t careful. I must admit that I have to intentionally focus on the positive much of the time. I tend to panic if I find myself in a situation where I am not in control and have to leave my fate in another person’s hands. Unfortunately, that sometimes leaks into my relationship with God.

This year I have been making a conscious effort to truly trust God in all aspects of my life. It hasn’t been a cakewalk but I am growing in my faith. I am now learning to let go of the control that I have fought so hard to hold onto all these years. In the past, I would face the situation with a sink or swim mentality. Now when I face a situation and begin to get a sense of panic, I immediately go to God’s Word. If you are a Christian who has control issues don’t fight it alone. It is so much easier when you rely on the Word of God to see you through during difficult situations.

Here are scriptures that are great reminders to me: (Try to memorize them if you can that way you have them available to you no matter where you are).

  • Psalm 118:8,9 “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.”
  • Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
  • Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”
  • Matthew 6:25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”

These are just the few that I have been going to so far this month but there are many more.

The Small Things Matter

The small things matter

Today I decided to go out and get something to cook for supper before I head to work this evening.  I honestly have been slacking off in that area and my husband doesn’t deserve that. During my time in prayer this morning, God reminded me that the small things matter.

I spent time in the grocery store praying and asking God what I should purchase. (Yes, I am one of those people who prays about those type of things). I didn’t get anything too spectacular.I eventually felt that stir fry was a good decision, so my daughter and I headed to check out.

When we were done I prepared to put the shopping cart away. As I was doing so my daughter wanted these stickers from the gumball machine area. Me, trying to stick to the monthly budget said,”no, we will save that money and get you something better another day”. Her being two years old wasn’t satisfied with that answer. I struggled to calm her down and this man kindly came over to me and gave me the change for her stickers. It may seem so small and pointless, but that act of kindness reminded me that the little things matter.

I felt that this constant reminder was worth sharing. Maybe you want to do something big in someone’s life but you don’t have the means to do so. I hope you remember that the little things matter. A small act of kindness can work wonders in a person’s life.

Sick & Tired

Sick & Tired

Have you found yourself saying that you are sick and tired of ___? If not, ask yourself if there’s something that you could fill in the blank with.

If you are finding it difficult to fill in the blank don’t worry, that’s a great thing in my opinion. It means that you are content. It means that there isn’t any stressor in your life that you could live without.

If you didn’t have trouble finding something to fit in that blank, if you found that the blank was nowhere near large enough then it sounds like you are dealing with stress.

The reason that the stress is there doesn’t matter. What does matter is the fact that it’s there. Since I vowed to be honest in my blog, I will tell you that I am battling with some stress myself. I felt myself feeling stressed and decided to blog. I thought it would not only be a teachable moment but also be therapeutic.

Like I said, the reason doesn’t matter. I am on a mission to relieve the stress not to fester it. Since I am in my feelings, I am not equipped to do this on my own so I am going to turn to God’s word.

Are you tired with so much to do?

Isaiah 40:30-31 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

  • This is a reminder that everyone will go through things and feel exhausted. But if we wait on the Lord he will renew our strength in due time. Now is not the time to lose focus. Keep going and keep believing because our strength will be renewed.

Do You have to make a big decision and you’re not sure what to do?

Proverbs 16:3 Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

  • I like how the Expanded Bible puts it, “Depend on the Lord in whatever you do [Commit your acts/deeds to the Lord]and your plans will ·succeed [be established]”.
  • There is nothing to fear when your plans are in the Lord’s hands. Trust him with your plans and you won’t be disappointed. 

Are you dealing with a loss?

Romans 8:18 For I consider for that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

  • No matter what current loss you may be facing please know that it won’t last. The pain is real but it will pass. The glory that we have to look forward to will definitely be worth us moving forward. It will get better!

Here’s one more for you:

Psalms 119:50 This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.

Are you having to watch someone struggle and you have no power to help them?

Psalms 22:24 For he has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and he has not hidden his face from him, but has heard, when he cried to him.

  • It is certainly hard to watch someone we care about go through tough times, especially when are powerless to help them. This verse is encouraging because it lets us know that we may be powerless but God who has all power is right there with them. Prayers really do change things!

I realize that these are not all the possibilities in which someone might be stressed at this present time. These are just the ones that came to me as I prayed and did research.

I pray that you find comfort from these few verses. If you haven’t don’t worry because the Bible is full of wisdom and encouragement. All you have to do is seek it out.

My Ideal Reader



My blog is full of an array of topics and I believe that it is beneficial to many different types of readers. I may talk about my hair journey, my faith, motherhood, marriage, encouragement, or some thing going on in my personal life. The topics may change but one thing is certain I will always be true to my feelings. I will share the good and the bad. If I decide to write about it, I will be completely honest.

As I stated in a previous post, I believe that we go through struggles in order to help others. That is why I believe in being transparent. My goal is to encourage others through my post. Whether it be someone on a hair journey, a mom figuring things out, or a Christian struggling with their faith. I want the “highs” of my life to show you that you will overcome your difficult circumstance. I want the “lows” of my life to show you that, although I am a believer, I too face difficult circumstances.

So many people have this misconception about what a Christian is. I won’t pretend to be this person with all the answers. I won’t pretend to know more than you about your life. This is where I blog. This is where I share my thoughts, my faith, and my journey with love. That is how I believe I can best be a Christian; through love.

Depression: Give Yourself A Fighting Chance

I woke up today and it was a regular day with the family. My daughter and I were watching cartoons and suddenly I felt this sense of sadness. Normally, I would brace myself for the overwhelming depression that I expected soon to follow but this time, I chose to do something different.

Here’s something you may not know about me: I struggle with depression, and I have been struggling off and on since the age of 12.

Before the year began, I promised myself a fighting chance.

Instead of allowing the feeling to spread,  I immediately began to pray. I then listened to some uplifting music that I had already prepared for such a time as this. I also began dancing, which is something I am trying to get back in the habit of doing.

I share all of this to encourage others out there who also struggle with depression. I want you to know that when you feel depression coming on that you don’t have to brace yourself for impact, that you have a fighting chance, and that prayer really does change things.

I don’t know what triggered my depression this time but I did know who to call upon. I have been a Christian since the age of 10 and I am now finally learning how to deal with depression.This never was a battle that I was meant to fight alone. I am by no means a pro but today I tried something new and it really made a difference. Change your focus! Don’t sit and wait to see when it will let up! Go to God at the ONSET and allow Him to fight your battle!

Encouragement From The Word Of God

[Philippians 4:8]  Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

[Psalm 34:17]  The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.

[2 Corinthians 1:3-4]  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
